19 People Killed On Enugu/Abakaliki Expressway
One of the most dreadful things that happens in ‘Mber’ month is the lost of lives, on Wednesday on Enugu/Abakaliki expressway, about 19 persons were killed in multiple accidents involving commercial vehicles.
The accident occurred almost immediately along the major highway on Ezilo axis of Ishielu council area and 135 Ezzambgo in Ohaukwu council area, reports indicates that some drivers also died.
One of the lucky survivors by the name Ezekiel told newsmen that the accident happened when a driver of a white commercial bus which left Awka heading to Abakaliki tried to overtake a sienna bus and in the process ran into an oncoming bus.
However the Federal Road Safety Corps have not been able to confirm the number of casualties at the time of filing the report.
The survivor narrating how the accident happened blamed the commercial bus driver saying he was driving recklessly, he added that the accident could have been avoided.
He said, the bus driver was trying to overtake when he ran into another bus coming form Abakaliki on a very high espeed both of them lost control of their vehicles and then they collided.
After the incident all efforts to speak with the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps Ebonyi State Command, Mr Sunday Inyama were not successful as he was said to be in a meeting.
