In Ebonyi state, church members stoned one Philip Ugwu, a 60 year old man to death following a land dispute in Afikpo Local Government Area.
The Ebonyi State police command has confirmed the murder, speaking with newsmen, the Public Relations Officer of the command, George Okafor said that the incident happened in Amebo-Ndebo village.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, said that the incident was reported to the command by the wife of the victim, Abani Ugwu, on the 30th September 2016.
PPRO, George Okafor said an evangelist by the name Tochukwu Okoh has been arrested in connection to the murder.
According to him, the wife of the deceased alleged that evangelist Okoh and three others attacked her husband with stones, he was unconscious and was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead, his body has been deposited n the morgue and would undergo autopsy.
The Police Public Relations Officers, some policemen together with an anti-crime patrol officers had gone to the scene and have arrested the suspect
He said, “the matter will be investigated very well and the culprits will be dully prosecuted”
Reports says that the cause of the attack was when the deceased popularly known as Boxer or Coach was arguing with the members of the church over the erection of a fence to demarcate their land.
He was rushed to the hospital immediately after the attack, his wife identified one of the attackers who was still with a stone and was apprehended and handed over to the police.
