Herdsmen Kidnaps 8 Farmers In Delta
On Tuesday, some suspected Fulani herdsmen stormed a farmland in Obiaruku, Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State and abducts eight persons, held them hostage for couple of hours.
The Fulani herdsmen got to the farmland and met these farmers working on their farmland as early as 6am harassed them on the bases that they are the on es responsible for killing four of their cows within the area.
Speaking with newsmen on the incident, Comrade Chika Uwabufo, the youth leader of Obiaruku community said that these Fulani herdsmen has been terrorizing the people of Obiaruku for some time now, ”what they now do is go to people’s farmland and eat up their food and then destroy their crops with their cows”.
The youth leader said that the herdsmen later released the farmers after being held hostage for several hours.
He went on to say that they have been reporting the worrisome activities of these Fulani herdsmen to the police and at a time they had a meeting the council chairmen, and some top government functionaries told the state chairman of the Fulani herdsmen to lave the community which they did and then came back again.
“When they were told the leave Obiaruku, they really left until some women saw some of the Fulani herdsmen again in the community and that was how they returned back to the community”.
Comrade Chika pleaded with the government to help them evacuate these Fulani herdsmen from their community because the their farmland that these herdsmen are destroying is the only means of livelihood of the people in the community.
