In Plateau Over 1600 Cattle Stolen By Gunmen
In Plateau state, over 1,600 cows have been declared missing by the chairman, Muhammad Nuru Abdullahi of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria MACBAN.
The chairman together with his secretary, Abdullahi Ardo tendered a petition to the state governor stating that over 1,600 cattle were stolen from them at gun point.
They said that from January till now they have lost 1653 cattle to armed robbers but the efforts put by the Operation Safe Heaven they were able to recover 1,591 while 62 is still no where to be found.
According to them, in February, Berom rustlers killed a herder and took 13 cattle into Kanakon village to Bulus Aboyi’s house. Residents of the community started macheting and killing us and also the officers of OPSH sector 7 were also killed because they tried to rescue us.
Due to this 7 Berom youths with AK47 took 45 cows in Ndig village while they were grazing, they brought the cattle to Foron but all thanks goes to OPSH who were able to discover two cows that was being slaughtered as meat and shared amongst the people.
Speaking with newsmen, Samuel Emmanuel Nanle the Director of Press and Public Affair DOPA said, “the government has talked about this issue of cattle stealing before in the previous meeting on Tuesday”
He went on to say that the government will not rest until this cattle rustling is stopped.
