Joint Task Force Kills 2 Pirates & 5 Militants
The Joint Military Task Force, JTF, Operation Delta Safe within the last three days in Niger Delta killed two pirates and five suspected militants.
Lt-Commander, Thomas Osuji, Spokesman of the Operation said that the JTF also had arrested three suspected in connection to the criminal activities going on in the area.
Thamos Osuji while speaking with newsmen in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state said “the arrest was made at Ikot Ene, Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State.
Osuji said that the Joint Military Task Force, had also rescued a boat filled with rice and some passengers which was earlier sized by the suspected militants, members of a gang Bakassi Strike Force.
The Operation Delta Safe Spokesman added, “the suspected were killed by the JTF from sector 4 together with the aid of sme local vigilantes at Parrot Island in Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross River State.
In his words, “the militants hijacked the boat which were carrying large quantities of rice from a marketer and the passengers, they were asking the owner of the rice to pay them N500,000 before they would released the boad and the passengers”.
He said, we we did was to put a bait on the suspect during the rescue operation and later professionally engaged the militants in a gun fire fight, we succeeded in killing five of them and we rescued the passengers without anyone injured.
As for the pirates, they were killed by troops from Sector 3 at the Idama Waterside In Rivers State.
