Niger Delta Activist, Ankio Briggs Says North Can’t Own Oil In Niger Delta

Ankio Briggs, a Niger Delta Activist described the claim made some northern leaders that they own oil in the Niger delta region as nonsense.

The Niger delta Activist said irrespective of that that they control 72 per cent of the nation’s landmass does not give them the right to lay claim on the oil found in Niger Delta region as theirs.

Briggs said this in an interview with Tony John in Rivers state, Port Harcourt that the oil in Niger Delta belongs to the the entire country and it remains the economic livewire of Nigeria.

When she was asked how she reacted by the claim made by the Northerners that the oil in Niger Delta and mineral resources in Nigeria belongs them because they have 72 per cent landmass, Ankio Briggs said it an irrational and a foolish claim because it doesn’t make sense to anyone that oil found in the Niger Delta region belongs to the North.

“All i can say is that if they really believe that they own the oil in Niger Delta they should come down to Niger Delta and claim the oil”

“if those in the north are saying the the oil in Niger Delta belongs to them, they should come with their cows to plant their tomatoes and onion in the creeks and swamps in the Niger Delta, its a very foolish claim and I do not think that any educated person would respond to such claim” she said.
