President Buhari has instructed the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris together with state governors that are affected to begin investigation into the recent case of sxual harassment of women and girls at the Internally Displaced Persons camps.
Cases of sxual abuse was reported by the Human Right Watch that some women and girls are been harassed and abuse sxually by some Internally Displaced Persons officials.
Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the president released a statement made by the president to newsmen which says that president Muhammadu Buhari was hocked at the news.
Part of the statement reads, “President Muhammadu Buhari is shocked and worried by the report of the Human Rights watch, HRW which claim that some girls and women at the Internally Displaced Persons camps are being sxually abused and exploited”.
“The welfare of these vulnerable Nigerian citizens has been a top priority of his government and Nigerians and the international community can rest assured that this report by the Human Rights watch will not be taken lightly”.
“The president has ordered that I.G of Police and the affected state governors to begin immediate investigation and their findings will determine what will be the next course of action against the culprits”.
The Human Riht Watch released a report alleging that some Nigerian Officials of sxually harassing and exploiting girls and women at the Internally Displaced Persons camp.
About 43 cases of women and girls in seven IDP camps have been abused by camp leaders, policemen, soldiers and vigilante groups
