Seven Members of Pro-Biafra Group Charged With Murder of Three Police Officers
Seven pro-Biafra members charged with the murder of three policemen have been detained in prison by F.I. Dikeh, Chief Magistrate Court in Asaba, Delta State.
The seven pro-Biafra agitators were charged with the murder of Cpl. Biosu Onyeka, ASP Genesis Akagha and Sgt. Itoro, on the 30th May 2016.
The three police officers of Delta State Command were murdered during a demonstration by the pro-Biafra members. Others include members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB and the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB).
The incident that claimed so many lives including members of the pro-Biafra, and lots of their Biafra group members took place on the Biafra Day anniversary celebration which was declared by the late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu in 1967.
The seven pro-Biafra members were charged with cultism, membership of unlawful society, illegal possession of arms and conspiracy.
According to the Laws of Delta State of Nigeria 2006, the offenses are punishable under several sections of the criminal code, Cap C.21 Vol 1 and the anti Kidnapping and Anti-Cultism/Terrorism Cap C.28 Law No. 8 in 2013.
F.I. Dikeh rejected their plea and ordered that they remain in police custody and he adjourned the case to 11th July
