On Thursday, in Enugu state, the police command has confirmed two persons dead due to a fracas in Awkunanaw, Gariki Market.
Speaking with newsmen, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Enugu State Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu said that the fight started very late on Wednesday.
The Police Public Relations Officer went further to say that one of the deceased during a serious quarrel stabbed the other one to death which made an angry mob to rush him and beat him to the point of death.
He said the man was seriously injured following a serious beaten by angry mob, he was later rushed to the hospital but died few minutes after arrival
Ebere Amaraizu said, “Two people were killed yesterday due to the clash between the two men over an alleged misunderstanding between them at the late hours on Wednesday at the Gariki Market, Awkunanaw”.
He said, because of the clash and the outburst of the people around, security agencies have been deployed to the area of the incident to maintain law and order and prevent the matter from escalating.
“Security agencies have been deployed to the place to beef up the area and also check breakdown of law and order in the market”
He said, investigations have already started to know in detail what really prompted the fight in the first place.
“Nobody has been able to give an exact information on what led to the fight, from the little we have been able to gather we have course to believe that the two persons were either transporters or traders who were operating in the market area.
