Uyo Church Collapse – Death Toll Rises To 29

Last Saturday, Reigners Bible Church collapsed killing some church members, yesterday, Cross River State Police Command said that the death toll has increased to 29.

Speaking with newsmen, he Police Public Relations Officer, Codelia Nwawe told newsmen that as at yesterday noon, two more people who were victims of the tragic incident had died.

The Commissioner of Police, Murtala Mani said that investigation has already started and in no distant time all the facts that led to the collapsed church building will be revealed.

Also, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, Uyo, has directed the Prevention, Investigation and failure Analysis Committee to investigate the causes of the tragic incident that led to the death of 29 people.

Federal Government however has sent a team of 10 neurosurgeon experts to Akwa Ibom State to assist the medical personnel who are already doing so much to save the lives of those seriously injured.

The team of neurosurgeons who arrived at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, UUTH, on Monday told newsmen that the team was specially put together on the instruction of the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole to assist the medical personnel already on ground.

The leader of the team who is a consultant orthopedic surgeon from the University of Lagos, Prof. Suleman Giwa said they were in the state to render necessary assistance and support.
