Youths In Delta Community Exchanged Gunfire With Herdsmen

On Monday, youths in Umunor community in Ossissa Kingdom in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta state had issues with suspected Fulani herdsmen over the usage of land in the community.

The youths in the community and suspected Fulani herdsmen exchanged gunfire due to land invasion by the herdsmen and also a long time crisis between the farmers in the community and Fulani herdsmen.

According to sources who spoke to newsmen about the incident said, residents in the community ran away to neighboring communities due to the gunfire fight.

One of the sources who spoke to newsmen said a security post has been stationed in the area in the course of the fight against the suspected Fulani herdsmen.

The security post was setup by the Council chairman and the police area commander who visited the village on Tuesday.

A security source said, ” We are not aware if there is any casualty during the Monday incident but the battle between the youth and the Fulani herdsmen was intense in the Umunor community.

He said some security men has been sent to the area to ensure there is peace and order in the community.

“For now there have not been any reported case of casualty in the course of the incident”.
